Behind HAB · Founder & Media

One person can start.
All of us can help.

HAB Justice began with a need for a clearer path through the justice system. Its purpose is practical: help people find information, prepare for what comes next, and feel less alone.

Jessica Carroll is the founder of HAB Justice and a long-haul truck driver. Much of HAB was built from the cab of a semi.

Built from the cab

You don’t have to have a title to begin.

Jessica’s experience trying to prepare a parole packet for her husband showed her how hard it can be to find the information families need. The information was scattered. There was no clear map.

That experience became the starting point for Hell and Back: free justice-system information, practical resources, and human-centered support for people affected by the system.

If a truck driver can stand up and do something, so can you.

The point is what we can do for one another. Start where you are. Use what you know. Help make the next step easier for someone else.

A little background. A shared purpose.

Jessica Carroll is the founder of HAB Justice, a free justice-system information and support project. A long-haul truck driver, she built much of HAB from the cab of a semi after her own experience navigating the system as a loved one. Her work centers on helping people find practical information, prepare for their next step, and feel less alone.

Conversation topics: navigating the system as a loved one; making information easier to find; building HAB while working on the road; and why ordinary people can take action.
