Work & opportunity

Find a starting point for hiring questions, workplace needs, and local support.

Support access to opportunity

Community members can help someone learn about a training program, practice describing a skill, or find the right contact for an opportunity. Ask what the person wants to pursue before suggesting a direction.

Make an introduction useful

Explain why a contact might help and obtain agreement before sharing personal information. Be clear when an opportunity is only a lead. Employers and hiring teams have their own Gatekeepers umbrella for their role in opening opportunities.

Questions to carry with you

  • What kind of work or learning interests the person?
  • Is this lead current and clearly described?
  • What information has the person agreed to share?

One manageable next step

Verify the basic details of one lead and let the person decide whether to pursue it.
