Make your purpose, responsibilities, and follow-through clear to the people you serve.
Make responsibilities visible
Explain your group’s purpose, the issues it works on, and how decisions are made. People should be able to tell whom to contact and what kind of response to expect. Keep promises specific enough that follow-through can be checked.
Include people in shaping priorities
Invite people directly affected to influence the work, not only provide stories. Clarify how personal accounts will be used and obtain agreement for that use. Keep a record of commitments, open questions, and who is responsible for the next action.
Questions to carry with you
- Who sets the priorities?
- How can someone raise a concern about our work?
- Which commitments still need follow-through?
One manageable next step
Review one current effort and publish or share a clear next-step update with the people involved.
