Offer help without taking over

I already know this — skip it

What is it?

A boundary explains what someone can or cannot agree to.

Why would I need this?

Support works better when people understand choices and limits.

Show me.

  1. Ask what help the person wants.
  2. Offer a specific action you can realistically do.
  3. Let the returning person make decisions and practice skills where possible.
  4. Say clearly when you cannot do something and discuss another option without promising it exists.

Try it.

Practice: I can help you practice the form, and you can decide what to submit.

Watch out for this.

Do not collect passwords or take control of accounts simply to make a task faster.

Explain this another way

Stand beside someone while they learn rather than taking the controls away.

Show me an example

A loved one can explain how email works while the account owner keeps the password private.

What does that word mean?

Boundary: A limit someone communicates about what they can agree to, share, or do.

You did it.

You have a way to do this. Repeat the practice or move on when you are ready.

When a feature needs information, we ask only for the minimum needed to make that feature work. Our approach is to collect and retain only what the feature needs—not to build a detailed profile of you or your child. Hosting and security services may retain technical logs, such as IP addresses.
