Respond to a concern without turning it into a rumor

I already know this — skip it

What is it?

A concern check separates something you directly observed from a story about someone’s past.

Why would I need this?

Practice addressing an ordinary neighborhood issue without treating a record as evidence of a new event.

Show me.

  1. Describe the behavior you actually observed.
  2. Use the same appropriate process you would use for a similar concern involving another neighbor.
  3. Avoid spreading unverified claims or organizing a confrontation.
  4. For immediate danger, use an appropriate emergency response rather than trying to investigate yourself.

Try it.

An invented noise complaint occurs after quiet hours. Describe the noise and timing without adding assumptions about someone’s record.

Watch out for this.

This exercise does not tell you to disregard threats, harassment, or a protective order.

Explain this another way

Focus on one small task: respond to a concern without turning it into a rumor. You can practice aloud, on paper, or with someone you trust.

Show me an example

HAB practice example: The complaint says music was audible after midnight; it does not claim the neighbor committed a different act based on their history.
