Get comfortable with a smartphone

I already know this — skip it

What is it?

A smartphone is a phone that also runs small programs called apps.

Why would I need this?

You may use it to contact people, read instructions, or get directions.

Show me.

  1. Find the power or wake button on your own phone.
  2. Tap once to choose an item. Swipe to move through a screen.
  3. Find how to return to the home screen. The button or gesture depends on the phone.
  4. Open a familiar app, then return home. Ask someone to demonstrate on your model if needed.

Try it.

Using a phone you are allowed to use, open its clock and return home. There is no time limit.

Watch out for this.

Phone layouts differ. Avoid changing settings you do not understand while practicing.

Explain this another way

Think of the home screen as a table with labeled tools on it. An app is one tool.

Show me an example

To check the time, wake the screen. To do more, unlock the phone using your own method.

What does that word mean?

App: A program that lets a device do a task, such as showing maps or sending messages.

You did it.

You have a way to do this. Repeat the practice or move on when you are ready.
