Turn a concern into a specific ask

I already know this — skip it

What is it?

A specific ask names a change or answer and identifies who may be able to provide it.

Why would I need this?

Practice moving from frustration to a request someone can respond to.

Show me.

  1. Describe one issue and the effect you want addressed.
  2. Identify the office or organization responsible for that part of the process.
  3. Ask for a concrete action, explanation, or meeting.
  4. State what evidence supports the request and what still needs checking.

Try it.

Rewrite the invented concern “Nobody can get help” as a request to clarify one service’s intake hours and alternate contact options.

Watch out for this.

Do not claim to represent someone or a group without their agreement.

Explain this another way

Focus on one small task: turn a concern into a specific ask. You can practice aloud, on paper, or with someone you trust.

Show me an example

HAB practice example: An advocate asks the intake manager to clarify how an applicant working during phone hours can request an appointment.
