Compare training before committing

I already know this — skip it

What is it?

Training programs and credentials differ. CareerOneStop describes several types and links to tools for exploring them.

Why would I need this?

Use a question list to compare possible options instead of assuming a course fits your goal.

Show me.

  1. Name the work skill or qualification you need.
  2. Ask each provider what completion actually gives you.
  3. Check schedule, access needs, entry requirements, and total cost or available assistance.
  4. Confirm uncertain answers with the provider before making a commitment.

Try it.

Compare two invented courses: one offers attendance only; one prepares for an exam. List what else you need to know.

Watch out for this.

Course attendance, a certificate, certification, and a license should not be treated as interchangeable. Confirm the requirement for the work you want.

Explain this another way

Focus on one small task: compare training before committing. You can practice aloud, on paper, or with someone you trust.

HAB practice example: Alex asks whether an advertised course includes an exam or merely preparation for it.
