Make a document checklist

I already know this — skip it

What is it?

A document checklist records what an organization asks you to bring or submit.

Why would I need this?

Different tasks can require different paperwork.

Show me.

  1. Identify the exact task and the agency handling it.
  2. Find the agency’s current official document instructions.
  3. List what you already have and what you need to request.
  4. Ask the agency which alternatives it accepts if something is missing.

Try it.

Make a fictional checklist with three headings: Have, Need, Ask. Use document names only.

Watch out for this.

Do not enter identification numbers here. Requirements differ by agency and situation.

Explain this another way

The checklist helps you prepare questions; it does not prove you qualify.

Show me an example

Need: ask the state licensing agency which identity documents apply to my application.

What does that word mean?

Application: A request to be considered for a job, housing, service, or another opportunity.

You have a way to do this. Repeat the practice or move on when you are ready.
