Report a delay clearly

One practical lesson · about 7 minutes

Report a delay clearly

I already know this — skip it

What is it?

A delay message states the problem, what you know about timing, and the next update.

Why would I need this?

Practice communicating early without making promises you cannot keep.

Show me.

  1. Use the workplace’s instructed contact method.
  2. State the delay briefly and accurately.
  3. Give an honest estimate, or say that the time is not yet known.
  4. Ask for instructions and say when you can update them.

Try it.

Practice a short message for a bus delay. Leave out personal details that are not needed.

Watch out for this.

A practice message is not a substitute for your employer’s actual attendance instructions.

Explain this another way

Focus on one small task: report a delay clearly. You can practice aloud, on paper, or with someone you trust.

Show me an example

HAB practice example: Alex says: “My bus is delayed. I cannot confirm my arrival yet. I am checking another route and will update you in fifteen minutes.”
